Scalable implementation of measuring distances in a Riemannian manifold based on the Fisher Information metric

This paper focuses on the scalability of the Fisher Information manifold by applying techniques of distributed computing. The main objective is to investigate methodologies to improve two bottlenecks associated with the measurement of distances in a Riemannian manifold formed by the Fisher Information metric. The first bottleneck is the quadratic increase in the number of pairwise distances. The second is the computation of global distances, approximated through a fully connected network of the observed pairwise distances, where the challenge is the computation of the all sources shortest path (ASSP). New fourfolds from F-theory

In this paper, we apply Borcea-Voisin's construction and give new examples of fourfolds containing a del Pezzo surface of degree six, which admit an elliptic fibration on a smooth threefold. Some of these fourfolds are Calabi-Yau varieties, which are relevant for the $N=1$ compactification of Type IIB string theory known as $F$-Theory. As a by-product, we provide a new example of a Calabi--Yau threefold with Hodge numbers $h^{1,1}=h^{2,1}=10$.

The possibility of extending the well known Gelfand–Naimark– Segal representation of *-algebras to certain Banach C*-modules is studied. For this aim the notion of modular biweight on a Banach C*-module is introduced. For the particular class of strict pre CQ*-algebras, two different types of representations are investigated.

Pseudodifferential Analysis on Manifolds with Boundary — a Comparison of b-Calculus and Cone Algebra

We establish a relation between two different approaches to a complete pseudodifferential analysis of totally characteristic or Fuchs type operators on compact manifolds with boundary respectively conical singularities: Melrose’s (overblown) b-calculus and Schulze’s cone algebra. Though quite different in their definition, we show that these two pseudodifferential calculi basically contain the same operators.

The role of virtual work in Levi-Civita's parallel transport

The current literature on history of science reports that Levi-Civita’s parallel transport was motivated by his attempt to provide the covariant derivative of the absolute differential calculus with a geometrical interpretation (For instance, see Scholz in The intersection of history and mathematics, Birkhauser, Basel, pp 203–230, 1994, Sect. 4). Levi-Civita’s memoir on the subject was explicitly aimed at simplifying the geometrical computation of the curvature of a Riemannian manifold. In the present paper, we wish to point out the possible role implicitly played by the principle of virtual work in Levi-Civita’s conceptual reasoning to formulate parallel transport.

Quantum Groups, Star Products and Cyclic Cohomology

After some historical remarks, we start with a rapid overview of the star-product theory (deformation of algebras of functions on phase space) and its applications to deformation-quantization. We then concentrate on Poisson-Lie groups and their “quantization”, give a star-product realization of quantum groups and discuss uniqueness and the rigidity as bialgebra of a universal model for the quantum SL(2) groups. Wulff shape characterizations in overdetermined anisotropic elliptic problems

We study some overdetermined problems for possibly anisotropic degenerate elliptic PDEs, including the well-known Serrin's overdetermined problem, and we prove the corresponding Wulff shape characterizations by using some integral identities and just one pointwise inequality. Our techniques provide a somehow unified approach to this variety of problems.
